Big old Hoss Buck Deer!!!!

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Well here we are again. Just got back from Louisiana. Been doing a little hunting since last Thursday. On Saturday afternoon I got myself a great big old buck deer!!! He is a 10 pointer and weighed in on the hoof at somewhere around 240-250lbs!!! We had to guess at the real weight because the scales we were using only went to 230lbs and he had the scales maxed out! By far the biggest deer I have ever shot in 38 years of chasing whitetail deer! This buck makes those Texas jackrabbit deer look tiny!!!! What a buck!!!! I have to admit that I did not take him with any skills but was just in the right place at the right time and Lady Luck smiled on me!!! A deer like this sure fuels my addiction to deer hunting. Hope to be doing far many more years....Until later, Pappy V.

Old Willie

On 10/29/08 I lost old Willie. Someone had given him some poison. It was expected that he would die a early death since he was a rover but not like this. I sat with him until 10:30 p.m. when he past. There was nothing I could do for him except keep him warm and as comfortable as possible. I will miss him. He was a good boy and a good friend and a family member. I have got to think that he is in a better place chasing rabbits and some one is scratching his ears. I thank God for having had him in my life... Pappy V. said it..........

Hello world! Well I survived another deer season opening week end this one past. Weather was perfect with lows starting out in the mid 40s and by Tuesday morning it was 25 degrees! Saw several does and young bucks but no shooters. There were some nice deer killed with the heaviest being a buck that went 185lbs and a doe that went 148lbs. A feller that hunts just a few miles from us shot a 10 pointer that weighed 243lbs!!!! Big old buck deer!!!! Guess I will just have to go back again in a couple of weeks to see if I can catch me a bigun. Until later.....Pappy V.

September 2008/Early Fall

Greetings from Waxahachie! It has been a rough week for all of our friends and family down on the Texas Gulf Coast. Thank God all are safe.

I have some great news to share with the world!!! My son and daughter-inlaw are expecting their second baby and was told yesterday that my daughter Jen and her husband Joe are also expecting for the first time!!!!! I will soon have a house full of Grandbabies!!! Life is so good and God has blessed this old man!!!!

We spent the day on Saturday with all of my family celebrating my parents 60th wedding anniversity. I really enjoyed being with Mom & Pop and all of the kids! Brody, my 1st grandson is growing so fast! That boy is a handful!!! In to everything and wants to see and touch any and all!! Don't know how his mother and dad keep track of him!!! Can't wait to take Brody hunting in a few years. Until later, Pappy V.

July 19th pics

Here are the pics that Paula sent me from Saturday's family event.

Another Sunday

Hello again. What a great day Saturday was!!!! Went to Brody's house for dinner with Nan & Pop & Paula & Jon & Kathey & Katie & of course Justin & Michelle & Jen & Joe. Justin has become a great cook on the grill and Michelle made homemade peach ice cream! Sure enjoyed being with my family and especially Mr. Brody. That kid will be grown before we know it!! Hopefully Paula will email me some of the pics that she took of the gathering so I can share here with you all. Brody is all boy and I look forward to the time I can take him along on some hunting trips. Guess his Dad can come to! Life is good. Until later, Pappy V.

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Hello world. Well it's been a good 4th of July weekend! I did end up in Louisiana. Left Friday and got bqck this afternoon. Had a good visit with Cousin Coy and family. Took the two dogs with me and that proved to be a royal pain but all worked out ok. They are worse than having younguns!!

We went to the local dirt track Friday nite to watch Kris race. We left the house at 6:00p.m. and got back at 3:00 in the morning!!! I am getting too old to stay up all nite!!!! Wegot up around 8:30 a.m. and blanched purple hull peas all morning. What fun!!!

Saturday afternoon we went to Cousin Fran's and her daughter Rachel's house for a 4th party. Had great brisket and all the fixins. I was really impressed with the homemade ice cream that they had!!! After the party we watched the Nascar race on TV and I crashed about 10:00 p.m.

This morning it was back up at 5:30 a.m. so we could go to the deer woods. We have aquired about 300 more acres to hunt so we went to take a look at it. Looks real promising.

I got back this afternoon and boy were the dogs glad to be back home!!! So was I to tell the truth. Called Justin's house and found out they had spent the weekend here in waxahachie. Sure was disappointed that I missed seeing Brody and his parents!!! I have run out of space. Later, Pappy

Sunday afternoon

Well, I got almost all my chores done today. Still have to iron my work pants for the week. Weekends need to be longer......not enough time to do everything that needs doing!

I am planning a trip to Louisiana this coming weekend to visit with cousin Coy and family. She has been busy putting up vegtables from the garden and making blueberry jelly. Bet I come back with a load of goodies!!!! Plan on taking Jack and Roscoe with me so that should be a experience! Those two plus Willie keep me company and very busy running after them. Don't know what I would do without them.

My company is talking about putting us on a four day work week due to the gas prices. That will be a very good deal. I told my boss it would be just like a pay raise to only drive to work four days instead of the regular five. That's about a quarter of a tank in gas savings!!!! Until later, Pappy V.

Greetings

Greetings to all. This is my first attempt to enter the world of blogging so bear with me. It's Sunday morning and I have chores to do so will check in here later. Life is good!
